MDMA Statement on HELP Committee Hearing Examining the Role of Pain in the Opioid Crisis

Washington, D.C. – Mark Leahey, President and CEO of the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA), issued the following statement today following the Senate HELP Committee hearing entitled “Managing Pain During the Opioid Crisis:”

“MDMA thanks Chairman Alexander, Ranking Member Murray and the entire committee for taking an important look into the role pain plays as a leading cause of the opioid crisis that our nation continues to battle.  Millions of Americans wake up every day suffering from chronic or acute pain, and it is critical that they have access to non-opioid treatments to help them lead productive lives.  Medical technologies provide life-changing relief for many who are suffering in pain, but these cures and therapies do no good if patients and physicians cannot access them.

“MDMA looks forward to working with Congress and all policy makers to improve access to and awareness of medical technologies so the full potential of this dynamic industry can be realized as we all work towards our common goal of ending the opioid crisis.”
