MDMA Statement on House Legislation Including an Additional 5-Year Suspension of the Medical Device Tax

Washington, D.C. – Mark Leahey, President and CEO of the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA), issued the following statement today in response to the introduction of legislation in the House of Representatives that includes an additional five-year suspension of the medical device tax:

“Medical technology innovators need predictability to fully deliver on the promise of a healthier tomorrow, and an additional suspension of the device tax for five years would help provide the environment that they need.

“One of the most tragic results of the medical device tax when it was in place was the shifting of resources away from research and development.  Fortunately, ever since this onerous policy has been suspended, innovators have made significant investments in R&D, which will benefits patients and physicians for years to come.

“MDMA will continue to work with the historic bipartisan support in both the House and the Senate to secure additional relief from the medical device tax in 2018.”
